What is the difference between being a Republican or Democrat?

Republicans normally lean towards lower taxes, less government programs, and a smaller government. Democrats generally want higher taxes to pay for more government programs, and want a larger governmental structure. A liberal or conservative is basically a democrat or a republican, but technically represent your views on things. Ex. If you have liberal views, you are most-likely a democrat.
