How long is safe to make a wedding cake in advance?

I have some experience with decorating and baking wedding cakes. You could make the layers about a week in advance and freeze them. It makes it easier to put the icing on when it's frozen too. I don't think you could put the whole cake together 2 or 3 days in advance though. It would probably have to be the day before and then put in the refrigerator.
