Is it poor etiquette to not attend a baby shower you were invited to?

Cousins (!)...Mom moving back in with parents...Dad has a decent job but she's angling to collect benefits...Dad willingly won't live with baby for the first year, but will eventually...WTF? No, you don't have to pretend to approve of that; that's a lot of nonsense.
