Painting Spark Plug Wires?

I want to paint my spark plug wires blue, I have just paint my calipers and I have caliper paint left over. Will anything happen if I paint my plug wires blue? I plan to just take them of and cover the part where it goes into the engine with tape, then proceed to paint them with caliper paint and hang it on a clothesline. Has anyone done this before, are there any side effects and will it affect my car in any way at all?
